It’s no longer news that there is an outbreak of the deadly lassa fever in certain parts of the country. Our concern thus is limiting the spread of the disease and protecting ourselves from contracting the virus. Rats infestation is a major problem to our homes and whether we like it or not, they always seem to find a way into our home regardless of how secured we think our homes are.

Below are some tips on how we can keep rats off our property:

Inspect your surroundings

Rodents have the ability to flatten their rib cages to fit through gaps. If their head can fit through, their body can follow suite. Haven said that, the first step is blocking the loop holes in your home. Take some time out of your ever busy schedule to walk around the house looking for ways in, and take note of what needs to be done to that place even if it needs some renovation.

Close the doors and windows at all time

Make it a point of duty to close your windows and doors regularly. Rats and mice are most active at night and are not likely to gain entry through open doors and windows during the day. But they take exception when they are under intense pressure to find shelter – they take the risk moving out during the day.

Dispose food remains on a daily basis

Remains of food stuffs spilled on the ground or in the waste basket can attract rat and mice to your home. Make sure you clean your kitchen and dispose your bin every day before going to bed, make sure raw foods are placed in a sealed container.

Baits and Traps

Nowhere can be made 100% proofed against rodents and you may already be too late to stop rodents entering. So place baits and traps in position NOW. This will also mean that the baits and traps are ready for any rodents that gain entry by some route not found during your search. Deal with them before they become a problem.

Our homes cannot be certified rodents free and we might be too late to stop them from entering. So the best option is baits and traps. This means you need to take noted of their movement or route for easy capture.
