This goes to those who have just acquired or rented a new home. Congratulations. Now that you’ve have a new home, it’s time to move. And this is where a lot of people become weary. The mere thought of heaving heavy boxes and scraping off your stuff from your old house is debilitating in no small measure. But, alas, you have to do it. Else, you’d have to remain where you are. One cannot guarantee that a move out will be less stressful, but it can be much smoother than it would have been had you not done the following:
Make an inventory of things to move
The classic to-do lists can prove immensely helpful in a lot of situations. Whilst moving out, you might not want to move everything in your old home to the new home. Some things are just too much trouble and unnecessary. So you can make an inventory of the things you want to move. Moreover, a to-do list helps you de-clutter your mind, prioritize and focus on first things first. With that it reduces the stress of moving out. Additionally you can decide what should be moved by one day: you move incrementally. Nobody says you must rush it after all.
Pay off utility bills
Make sure to pay off all outstanding utility bills before leaving. Don’t procrastinate about it. This will save you some near-future headaches. It could be quite annoying to leave an old home, then weeks down the line you realize that you have offset outstanding bills, whereas new bills are accruing to you in your new home.
Update mailing address
A new home comes with a new address. It is material to change all your mailing addresses to that of the new home. Otherwise you might lose important mails, which can be quite detrimental to you. And it will suffice to be friendly with the new occupant of your old home or an old neighbour, so that in the event that a mail arrives, he or she can contact you and keep it for you.
